The pair of scholars who were killed in Saturday’s mass shooting in Providence were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their assailant carried on following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

She served as vice-president of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also expressed condolences publicly, saying in part: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the renowned school, family members said.

The victim's identification was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
