The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
However, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
