One of the co-founders of the well-known ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has claimed that corporate owner Unilever stopped the introduction for an innovative Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the company alongside his partner, announced how he will independently develop the controversial flavor as part of a personal series showcasing causes the company has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Conflict Between Creators versus Corporate Owner

This latest development deepens the continuing conflict among the internationally recognized ice cream maker with its corporate parent, the British packaged goods corporation that acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted how Unilever along with their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented their company against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Flavor becoming a Symbol of Support

The entrepreneur stated via social media how he's developing an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, asking for consumer ideas regarding the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated in a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that advocates for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem for support for the Palestinian people due to its coloration, which mirror the colors in Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Previous Social Engagement and Recent Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in areas under Israeli control, leading to the parent company selling the Israeli operation to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution in disputed territories.

The new dessert series is being developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company that originally created in 2016 for endorsing ex- political contender Bernie Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Changes and Future Intentions

The founder revealed how he plans to create other ice cream flavors focusing on issues that Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly by corporate restrictions.

This development comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's in September, following decades with the organization, citing concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been compromised after corporate moves to restrict their advocacy work.

Previously, Ben Cohen stated that "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart compels me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy so that it can actualise its ethical purpose, the principles that it was founded on while upholding for over 40 years," he told media outlets.
