The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:
- Every squad has just eight real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while another details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
